How much do Energy Star dishwashers really save on your electric bill?

Is it worth spending the extra $$$ to upgrade to a unit that is Energy Star rated?|||I wash one to two loads of dishes per day in my dishwasher. I think it's important to look at what the energy star machine does and doesn't do. I wanted a quieter machine that had a hard food disposer and just happened to have found one that was also more energy efficient. If not, I would have bought the regular model.

Dishwashers already use less water than washing by hand and if you leave the dry cycle off and let them air dry you are saving energy also.|||No. They are not economical from that viewpoint. Look at the energy use label on one that is energy star and on one that is half the price but not energy-star. If you look at the dollars you save, you will be washing dishes for the rest of your life to make up that extra initial cost.

The concept is good but the manufacturers jacked up the prices to about double to clean up on people's energy worries. They are the only ones benefiting from the energy-star designation.
