What is the bright star/planet that rises in the east around 10 pm?

I live in Norman, Oklahoma and have recently noticed this star/ planet. It is the only noticeable star this close to horizon.|||That's Jupiter. Take a look with binoculars or a small telescope, and you'll see its accompanying moons.|||http://www.stellarium.org/

This is great freeware that you can download. Tell it where you are and it will tell you what you see. Ask it where something is and it will show you. This FREE program will tell you that you are seeing the planet Jupiter as it begins to rise in the east in the late evening hours. This program can answer questions like this for you for many years to come. I hope that you enjoy it.|||The planet rising in the east is Jupiter. Venus is setting in the west a little while after sunset. Venus is inside the orbit of the earth, so it is always "near" the sun, while Jupiter is currently rising about opposite the sun. It is not possible for Venus to be this "far" from the sun.|||Jupiter. Closest approach in September 2010.|||Jupiter is the brightest "star" (tis a planet) visible from what I understand.|||Good ole jupiter|||The planet Jupiter.
