Why is the Star of David involved so much with sacred geometry, and the platonic solids?

I'm not Jewish but I do alot of research with science, physics, math, art, geometry, sacred geometry, architecture, etc and I see the star of david alot especially with sacred geometry, the platonic solids, and architecture. I see triangles involved with alot of things such as pyramids, math, etc and it seems like there are secrets about this symbol. What is the significance of the Star of David? Is it a key, or a portal of some kind? Does it symbolize duality? Love to get a Jewish perspective on this.|||If you study geometry, you should know that a hexagon has some nice properties in geometry (like a square or a equilateral triangle or like a pyramid, a cube, a dodecahedron in solid geometry), and nothing more, nothing magic or occult.

Besides, we call it David's Shield not David's Star and it was ........... simply the shape of his shield.|||i dunno, but then again the bible says the jewish family is gods "chosen people".|||Because it is an interesting construction, it has a lot of symmetry. Equilateral triangles are generally used symbolically and also pope up in Mathematics a lot. The hexagram is two intersecting equilateral triangles that share a common center. The intersection is a regular hexagon.

Properly it is called the Hexagram http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexagram and it was associated with Islam and Buddhism and even at times Christians over the centuries. You can even find it in the stained glass of some Cathedrals.

It wasn't associated with the Jews and David until the late middle ages.|||Well, it is a star, so that's why everyone calls it the Star of David. In, Hebrew, as the other mentioned, it means "Shield of David" from the Hebrew phrase Magen David.
