What is the difference between 3-star and 5-star A/c in terms of energy consumption? Does the energy consumption vary with brands?|||Star ratings are not a measure of power used. They are a reletive measure of how efficiently the power is used when compared to other similar units. Generally, that may be the same thing, but not always. A unit that uses 5,000 watts may have a 3 star rating, and one that uses 10,000 watts may be rated with 5 stars.
A 5 star rated unit may use more power than a 3 star unit while it's running, but being more efficient, the 5 star should have a shorter duty cycle and run less of the time.
First, shop for a size big enough to cool the area so it won't run constantly. Once you have several brands and/or model numbers, then consider the efficiency or star ratings from that list.
